We can talk to God about anything and everything. We can do this anywhere at anytime.
A simple way to get started with your prayer time is to use the A.C.T.S method. This will give structure to the time you spend with God and help you to establish a good prayer life.
- Adoration: This means to come before God and acknowledge who He is. Offer praise and thanksgiving to Him for His power, love, mercy, goodness and faithfulness. He is our awesome God and worthy of praise. "I will praise you, my God and King, and bless your name each day and forever." (Psalm 145:2-3)
- Confession: We need to confess our sins and wrongdoings before the Lord. God is a merciful God and will always forgives us if we confess our sins to Him daily. “But if we confess our sins to him, he can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. And it is perfectly proper for God to do this for us because Christ died to wash away our sins." (1 John 1:9).
- Thanksgiving: Offer thanks to the Lord for the many blessings He has given to us. Thank Him for ALL things in our lives, even the little things we take for granted. “O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his loving kindness continues forever." (Psalm 136:1).
- Supplication: Ask God: make our requests known to Him. God is our Father and He is wonderfully pleased when we come to Him with our needs. He is there to guide and help us in every area of our lives. “Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.” (Philippians 4:6-7).
These are some simple steps to learn how to pray. Spending time with God each day through reading the Bible and praying will have a wonderful impact on your heart and mind. Perhaps you can write your thoughts, prayer requests, answers to prayer and the blessings you've received in a journal. May God honour and bless you as you take this journey with Him.
