"The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?"

Have you ever asked the question, "What on earth am I here for? What's my purpose?"  I'm sure most of us have at one time or another. This is a testimony about how God changed someone's life and gave an insight into why we are here.

After reading this book by Rick Warren, my thinking has changed incredibly in regard to how I think my life should be. I loved the start of the 40 Days of Purpose book, which said: It’s not about you. That really hit home. I always thought that my life should be going a certain way and that was probably "my way". It was always about what I wanted and not what God wanted for me. I never really understood that this life was to prepare me for eternity and since I have learnt that, I am looking at things very differently. I think I was searching for the perfect life and that doesn’t exist. We are not here for ourselves but to serve and love God. We are not here for our happiness, but for God’s. We may not always have what we want in life, but God will give us what we need. We may not be completely happy in every aspect of our life, but God will give us his love and his strength to sustain us. I particularly loved the chapter on “temptation” and how God uses trials to make us stronger Christians. I need to trust God completely during these times and when faced with temptation, to choose for God and not for Satan, remembering that God is always in control. “The Lord is close to the broken hearted” is a beautiful Psalm that I love dearly, which tells me that God knows my heart even when no one else does, and that He will always be near to me no matter what. I think that both as individuals and as a church, we are close to finding “the purpose” which God has for us. It is something that will bond us together as brothers and sisters in Christ and nothing can ever take that away from us. We are one in Him and will be forever.
